Mississippi reveals dark secrets of a racist time…This graphic yet inspiring video depicts how Mississippi’s government funded the “White Citizens’ Council” of the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission whose goal was to maintain segregation between whites and blacks at any cost. This organization upheld Malcolm X’s, philosophy “by any means necessary” to achieve their goals, long before the civil rights’ activist came on the scene. The murders of Medgar Evers, NAACP leader; Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner and James Chaney. Civil Rights workers; Vernon Dahmer , voting rights advocate; and the attempted association of Dr. J. Horace Germany, founding president of Bay Ridge Christian College, were a testament to the belief held by people of color, especially Native, Hispanic and African Americans of the necessity of Home Land Security. These Americans have been fighting against domestic terrorism since 1492 due in large part to the mentality of the Ku Klux Klan and others in the larger society who advocate for a “white America only” and perpetuate the notion that their crimes against humanity should continue to go unabated, even today. Whatever the injustice, i.e., the Travon Martins being killed by self-proclaimed vigilantes; or a system that promotes the use of automatic assault rifles and hand guns that subsequently play a role in the killing of innocent children and youth in suburban communities in Connecticut or in urban communities such as Chicago, we need to choose to be part of the solution. Fredrick Douglas recommends three success strategies, “agitate, agitate, and agitate! There is no progress without struggle.” A call to community service, especially the ministry should compel social activism as model by those who endured injustice of unimaginable cruelty sponsored by the very government who duty it is to protect them.
